I'm skimming Yahoo! News this morning and see several articles entitled Disney Opens Fairy Tale Weddings to Gay Couples. And I think, "Ooo ... fairy tale wedding! Cool! Let's go!" Because I'm like that. But then I think that maybe Roro's mom doesn't want to share her table with Minnie and Mickey who could be guests at our ceremony as part of the Lavish Wedding Option.
So ... we likely won't be doing it, but I'm thrilled other gay couples can. I also love Disney's attitude towards it. They have allowed Gay Days for years (and been condemned and boycotted by the Southern Baptists for their tolerance of human rights). And their policy on gay weddings (or commitment ceremonies) follows along on the inclusive atmosphere they are trying to cultivate:
"We believe this change is consistent with Disney's long-standing policy of welcoming every guest in an inclusive environment," Disney Parks and Resorts spokesman Donn Walker said Friday. "We want everyone who comes to celebrate a special occasion at Disney to feel welcome and respected."
"We are not in the business of making judgments about the lifestyle of our guests. We are in the hospitality business and our parks and resorts are open to everyone," Walker said.
Thank you, Disney! Way to go!
