Ahem. So, I've had a request for a "photo essay" of life in Vancouver. (That Melissa, she can be so demanding!).
One of the most obvious elements in my new neighbourhood are the Spirit Bears. Spirit Bears in the City is a public art/charitable program in Vancouver and seven other cities (Surrey, Vancouver Island, Prince George, Terrace, Kitimat, Prince Rupert, and Whistler) -- similar to Toronto's Moose in the CIty program. Local artists use a 7ft fibreglass polar bear as their canvas. The designs range from nods to native culture, pop culture inspired and even some inside jokes.
Spirit Bears will be on display til October 2006 and then there will be an auction to benefit the BC Lions Society's Easter Seal Operations and the Canucks for Kids Fund.
Below are a few of the ones that I see on the way to work.
